Introduction
Welcome. The site has been designed with simplicity in mind. Here you should be able to find just the basic information about the firm and general background information about our areas of practice. Please remember that merely visiting our website does not create an attorney-client relationship with the visitor or viewer. We also need to remind you that because The Brumer Law Firm provides bankruptcy counseling and representation, it is considered a "Debt Relief Agency" under federal law. With those diclosures out of the way, please feel free to explore our website and email or call with any questions or to make an appointment.
The Firm
The Brumer Law Firm was founded on one basic principle: service. Lawyering is a service profession. The Brumer Law Firm strives to provide the most complete counseling and service to its clients and those whom its clients refer. It’s no accident that many of the firm’s practice areas – such as consumer bankruptcy, estate planning, probate and trust administration - are emotionally charged practice areas. These require an attorney with the heart of a counselor and the precision of a surgeon. I found that the only way that I could provide the proper level of service to my clients was if I started my own practice. So that’s what I did. With a background in psychology, experience in business and litigation, I believe I’m the best lawyer to handle your case.
Although you’re probably somewhat interested in where I went to law school, earned my post-graduate degree, or how many states have licensed me to practice law, you’re likely on this website to see if I can help YOU. You’re here for you - and you’ve come to the right place.
Why This Matters
Anyone can fill in a bankruptcy petition or buy a trust or will online; the documents are not the service. What do I mean by that? When you hire our firm, you’re not hiring a note taker or someone to take dictation and merely transcribe numbers and words onto forms. Bankruptcy is much more than filling in forms and getting a discharge. Bankruptcy, litigation and estate planning are mostly about choosing, planning, thinking, and using strategy. Only an experienced bankruptcy attorney with knowledge of the law and the way your jurisdiction is handling certain issues is in the right position to counsel and guide you along.
The Emotional Component
Although you’re not here for psychotherapy, a compassionate ear is always available. Bankruptcy and estate matters are intensely personal and emotional. Some have even said that bankruptcy carries with it a stigma of shame and failure. I disagree. The law is there for a reason – to offer the client a fresh start when things go in unexpected and unfortunate directions. The law recognizes that debt can be healthy and is even necessary in certain circumstances (for few can pay cash for a house or start a business on a shoestring budget) but sometimes our personal circumstances spiral out of control despite the best of intentions. Most of our clients were not out spending money they didn’t have on luxuries but rather were using credit to survive when they faced adversity or hit a wall professionally or medically. Regardless of how you got here, we never judge you or lose sight of the way that these matters affect our relationships with others and our feelings about ourselves.
